The new ISO 9000 quality standard for 2000

The new standard has arrived! ISO 9000, the international quality management standard has been updated. The new ISO 9000 2000 standard was published 16th December 2000 and will be audited against that in a number of varying ways by the ISO 9000 certification bodies, depending upon the one you use. The old 1994 quality standard covers 20 sections of a company. It follows the process through from once a quotation is made until the goods / services arrive with the customer. The standard looks at a company from the customer's point of view. So whilst there is no requirement for a contract to be signed by your customer, you are obliged to make a documentary note of what that customer required. Obviously you may well include within your system a check that says nothing will progress until you get a written instruction from your client and that is up to you.
