ISO14000 impact management
ISO14000 requires that the EMS is used by the company to declare its environmental objectives, and plan actions around how to reach them and potentially exceed them. They do need to be real and achievable. The EMS can then be used to establish a set of procedures to ensure policy deployment and objectives being reached. Communication is a vital factor, enabling people in the organisation to be aware of their responsibilities, aware of the objectives of the scheme, and able to contribute to its success. This is facilitated through the dissemination of the policy but also as part of effective environmental training given to staff as an ongoing and or an induction programme.
ISO14000, like ISO9000 requires planned periodic audits of the Environmental Management System to ensure that it is effective in operation, is meeting specified goals, and the system continues to perform in accordance with relevant regulations and standards. The audits are designed to provide additional information in order to exercise effective management of the system, providing information on practices which differ to the current procedures or offer an opportunity for improvement this is fed into a management review meeting to assess performance against the objectives. A benefit of working with Activa is that all our EMS consultants are also ISO9000 consultants, so your procedure writing and audits can occur at one time reducing costs, increasing effectiveness and requiring less time. Ask us about projects to complete both ISO14000 and ISO 9000:2000 at the same time to realise these savings.
