ISO14000 requires an Environmental Policy to exist within the organisation, fully supported by managers, outlining policies of the company, to the staff and public alike. The policy clarifies compliance with Environmental Legislation that may effect the organisation and stresses commitment to continuous improvement. Emphasis is placed on policy as it provides direction for the Environmental Management System.
The ISO14000 Environmental Policy is different from the ISO 9000:1994 policy and is subject to closer assessment, like the new ISO 9000:2000 policy. It relates to the specific areas within the organisation covered by the Management System and provides an overview of company activities in an environmental context.
Activa conduct an initial review and define the organisation's environmental impact. Whilst not part of the system as a whole it can be seen as a base line for action and improvement. We assess the ins outs and all environmental interfaces along the way this will relate to past present and future activities since all need to be either reflected upon, assessed or planned for. ISO14000 insists you recognise these implications and perform corrective actions reducing impact on a continuously improving path. This includes your company's exposure to legislation.
EMS is normally embarked upon as a marketing tool like ISO 9000. Many new doors can be opened with larger corporates, local councils and local government, as they try to improve their supply chain. This is the reason to undertake this type of initatives as the bar for doing business is always being raised. Otherwise you end up competing for the high cost of sale SME business. Once an ISO14000 system is in place and running effectively, significant cost reductions are found and bottom line improvements can be seen.
You with Activa can make it happen!
